What better place to celebrate than at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes, California. This lavish retreat provides guests with the perfect marriage of beauty and luxury.
Our criteria were simple: relaxation, comfortable accommodations, and superior cuisine. It was a time to check out, reflect on the last year, dream about the next, and breathe fresh air (preferably, air seasoned with ocean salt). We arrived at the tip of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and were warmly welcomed by the staff at the breathtaking Terranea Resort. Situated on 102 acres, the sprawling compound features a 9-hole golf course, first class spa, distinctive dining, and a large pool for swimming, which includes a 140-foot water slide. Located just south of Los Angeles, the Mediterranean inspired estate exudes vintage and luxurious interior design framed by picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island.
We started off our weekend by unwinding and slipping into a few hours of bliss at Terranea’s Spa. Spanning 50,000-square-feet of waterfront, the view captivates your soul. We submerged ourselves into a tranquil setting to discover a renewal for mind, body, and soul. Our couple’s hot stone massage was just what we needed. Other spa services include facials, specialty body treatments, manicures and pedicures, and salon services. Amenities of the spa include an adult pool with private cabanas, sauna and steam room, cold plunge, and whirlpools. The fitness center offers personal training, fitness classes, nature walks, and a yoga studio.

Our hideaway featured an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, and cliffs. We relaxed on the comfortable balcony of our room with a glass of champagne while admiring the graceful sunset before heading to dinner.
Our anniversary dinner was truly a celebration at Terranea’s crown jewel eatery, Mar’sel. The name is a play on the Spanish and French words for “sea” and “salt.” The award-winning Chef Michael Fiorelli combines seasonal and local fresh ingredients to create dishes emanating love and salt. We started our dinner with roasted young beets and salad of Susie’s farm kale. Other starter items are homemade potato gnocchi and slow braised Idaho pork cheek. Our entrée choices were Brandt farm’s prime flat iron steak and roasted California duck breast – a true culinary culmination. Other entrée highlights include roasted Mediterranean branzino, red curry lamb belly, and Washington State steelhead trout. To finish on a sweet note, we were treated with caramel pudding with fleur de sel and milk chocolate and hazelnut cremeux with caramelized banana. With an extensive wine list, Mar’sel unites flavor and creativity for any cuisine craving.
