Met Gala 2017: Best Dressed… and Most Disappointing
The Met Gala, the annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, took place last night in New York City with a truly star-studded event.
This event is referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,” and has been around for nearly 70 years. Each year the event has a theme, and the theme for 2017 was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. Comme des Garçons, which was celebrated at this year’s event because of the new Costume Institute’s exhibit, served inspiration for how those that attend should dress. On the invitation, attendees were requested to dress “avant-garde,” which implies to break all rules.
The celebrity-packed red carpet proved that many were ready to accept that challenge and push all boundaries when it comes to fashion, while some interpreted what “avant-garde” might be on a more toned-down scale.
Christina Makowsky, Fashion Editor of Beverly Hills Lifestyle Magazine, chose the best dressed… and the most disappointing of the evening. Here were her picks from the Met Gala 2017 event:
The Best
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
“Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds never cease to amaze me when they step out together… loving those blue feathers.”
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
“Give me fashion, Chrissy Teigen, and she does … my kind of girl”
Kylie Jenner
“Kylie Jenner just grew up and out did her sisters… stunning and classy”
Gigi Hadid
“Gigi took my breath away… she raises the bar when she steps out onto the runway like no other… Best Style Met Gala 2017…”
Tommy Hilfiger and Dee Ocleppo
“But always madly in love with my favorite power couple of all times, Tommy Hilfiger and Dee Ocleppo… gorgeous, brilliant, classy, and always in love. Can’t get better than that!!!”
The Disappointing
Rhianna
“Sorry, Rhianna, not feeling it… but love you dearly for always bringing drama to the Met”
Who were your favorites and least favorites of the evening?
